manifest towards real prosperity
Open your mind: What you learn in Economics is not always what it seems to be, or even true. State-run enterprises can keep a nation in blissful prosperity, as long as they operate in a truly competitive environment, along side with private enterprises.
The destruction and sellout of the enterprises that manage wealth-producing resources of a nation, along with the degradation of Labor, certainly constitute no one-way road towards salvation. On the contrary, current measures towards fiscal rescue and universal progress in any nation’s Economy, is just a breath away from a fall over the cliff.
It should be noted that the United States do have state-run enterprises. A successful one is «Tenessee Valley Authority (TVA)», which produces Electrical Power, not only by burning fossil fuel, but also by tapping on Hydroelectric and Nuclear Energy.
TVA was founded by the Roosevelt Administration in 1933, and functions successfully even in our days. Due to the 1929 Crash (der Krach), the Democratic Party of Roosevelt (FDR) adopted the ideas of the Progressives.
So the Democrats launched the “New Deal”, a series of socialist-like reforms to help the nation get “out of the woods”, and through the dire straits of unrestrained Capitalism.
i. Standing-up for the Labor
ii. Establishment of state-run enterprises
iii. Pursuit of growth, Production Output
Take the greek citizens, for example: yes they do expect that the State might employ them. Why? Because the Greek State insists on heavily tax-farming the Private Sector, in order to gather Revenue.
So, as the State craves for easy money, it handles private enterprises both brutally and leniently, exactly as a pimp faces his prostitutes. And where is the State more lenient towards the entrepreneur? But of course in Labor issues! It’s a jungle out there in the Private Sector, and most of the Greeks have realized it, with the employees sandwiched between desperately out-stretched employers, and their hostile pimp, the Greek equivalent of IRS. And that is why they have flocked into the Public Sector, or have been led to migration.
This «vicious circle», can be escaped by re-establishing the Greek Republic, and re-defining the role of the State, strictly:
i. To serve & protect the people, all of them, minorities of any sort included
ii. Safeguarding the rights of Labor, with minimum limits on wages (as David Ricardo, a contemporary, yet obscure (alas!), adversary of Malthus, had suggested nearly a quarter of a millennium ago!), including an adequate Welfare System (not for free, not by all means)
iii. Providing for Infrastructure (Communications & Transports, also not for free..!) and Services (Ports, Airports, Coast Guard, Fire Fighter Corps etc)
iv. Owning the proper resources from which it can earn its own revenues
(No King George imposing taxes even on the tea production…): Any state-run enterprise has a good chance of becoming efficient and profitable, as long as it ventures in a competitive environment, AND the State that owns it keeps its hands off the easy honey of taxing citizens and enterprises. No income-taxation, whatsoever, is essential for an impartial State.
Besides, Capitalism is a necessary evil. The decadence and subsequent collapse of Communism illustrates all too well that Capitalism is a necessary vessel for Human Societies, unless people prefer to dwell in Neolithic Era comforts. With the unfortunate exception regarding the fragility of Nature, most of the dismal realities of the Malthus Model are overruled by the advances of the Industrial Age. So, long after the Industrial Revolution, it is now possible for the masses, that perpetually suffer under the pressure of both State Tyranny and the Social Pyramid, to improve their standing in life through the advances of Technology and the macroeconomic increase in Wealth, a truth that is scandalously overlooked by a wide variety of wise men, including Thomas Malthus of the Pessimists, Adam Smith of theLiberals, Karl Marx of the Scientific Socialists (aka Communists), the «Third Way» Economists of the National Socialists (aka Fascists), and the entire idiot-constellation of the Neoliberals.
The Neoliberal point of view is totally wrong, as well as harmful for the Public Weal (period!).
State-run enterprises can keep a nation in blissful prosperity, as long as they operate in a truly competitive environment, alongside with freely enterprising private initiatives. The destruction and sellout of the enterprises that manage wealth-producing resources of a Nation, along with the degradation of Labor, certainly constitute no one-way road towards salvation. On the contrary, current measures all over the World, with the blessings of common shammers (International Monetary Fund: IMF, World Trade Organization: WTO, World Bank Group: IBRD & IDA, and so on) towards fiscal rescue and universal progress in any nation’s Economy, is just a breath away from a fall over the cliff.
On the end of the day, all that really matters is Prosperity for All, which can be acquired and sustained by sincerely manifesting Social Justice!
